The Chinese government has exempted certain US imports from retaliatory tariffs as they are difficult for China to immediately find substitutes from elsewhere, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources. The exempted goods include specific chips, chip manufacturing equipment, medical products, and aircraft parts.

The report quoted two chip industry insiders as saying that China's customs authorities have lifted newly imposed tariffs on eight categories of US-made chips since April 24, including central processing units. Many chip products from Intel (INTC.US) and Texas Instruments (TXN.US) have been granted exemptions, while some US-made products from Micron (MU.US) will continue to be subject to tariffs.
